Cattleya Care Guide

Cattleya orchids are very sturdy and can take a lot of abuse from those who tend to forget to water. They are also tolerant of several temperature ranges.

  Light

This plant prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate medium indirect light. Plants grown under ideal light will have apple green leaves and plants which are not getting enough light will have dark green leaves. Learn more about light here

 Watering

In Coconut Husk medium water retention is more compared to Pine Bark, so plants in Coconut Husk may require once in 2-3 days watering compared to 1-2 days watering in Pine Bark.  Medium may dry faster or slower depending on the weather conditions. So always touch and feel the medium, only when partially dry water the plant.  Learn more about watering here

Fertilizing

Fertilizing your orchid regularly provides it with the nutrients it needs for optimal health, immunity and vigorous blooming. Weekly once with Bio-20 or Basfoliar 19:19:19 for growth and rooting. Once a month with Basfoliar 13-40-13. Learn more about fertilizing here

Meet the breathtaking Lycaste Sunray, a highly prized collector's orchid bred from the distinguished cross of Lycaste Shoalhaven × Lycaste skinneri (syn. Lycaste virginalis). Known for its dramatic triangular form, sweet daytime fragrance, and massive waxy blooms, this hybrid brings true botanical elegance to any orchid collection.

🌸 Flower Specialty

  • Classic Triangular Form: Features a highly symmetrical, triangular structure with wide, prominent sepals framing smaller, forward-facing petals and a central lip.

  • Color Variations: Famously yields pastel clear-pink petals, as well as stunning semi-alba forms showcasing white sepals and petals with soft pink centers.

  • Impressive Size & Texture: Produces large blooms reaching 10 to 14 cm across, featuring a heavy, waxy texture that keeps individual flowers fresh for 6 to 8 weeks.

  • Strong Daytime Fragrance: Emits a sweet, pleasing scent that becomes highly pronounced during daylight hours.

  • High Yield: Mature, healthy pseudobulbs push multiple upright spikes simultaneously, resulting in a dramatic, clustered display.

🌿 Comprehensive Care Guide

  • Parentage Legacy: Inherits robust growth and classic triangular flower geometry from its parentage (Lycaste Shoalhaven × Lycaste skinneri).

  • Light & Placement: Requires bright, filtered light. Aim for balanced foliage—yellow-white leaves indicate overexposure to sun, while deep green leaves signal a need for more light.

  • Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in cool-to-intermediate climates with daytime temperatures of 18°C to 32°C and a night drop to 10°C–15°C. Maintain 50%  humidity alongside strong air movement.

  • Watering Rule: Water the potting medium directly never splash water onto new, unfolding leaves or trapped crowns to prevent immediate rot.
