Dendrobium Care Guide

Dendrobium orchids can be grown as indoor plants as long as they get a sufficient amount of light & air circulation.

  Light

This plant prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate medium indirect light. Plants grown under ideal light will have apple green leaves and plants which are not getting enough light will have dark green leaves. Learn more about light here

 Watering

In Coconut Husk medium water retention is more compared to Pine Bark, so plants in Coconut Husk may require once in 2-3 days watering compared to 1-2 days watering in Pine Bark.  Medium may dry faster or slower depending on the weather conditions. So always touch and feel the medium, only when partially dry water the plant.  Learn more about watering here

Fertilizing

Fertilizing your orchid regularly provides it with the nutrients it needs for optimal health, immunity and vigorous blooming. Weekly once with Bio-20 or Basfoliar 19:19:19 for growth and rooting. Once a month with Basfoliar 13-40-13. Learn more about fertilizing here

Bring a cascading waterfall of golden sunshine and sweet perfume into your space with the Dendrobium chrysotoxum var. suavissimum Orchid Plant. Native to the distinct seasonal forests of Southeast Asia, this highly prized variety is famous for its dense, overlapping clusters of vibrant blooms and an incredible room-filling fragrance. It is a robust grower and a must-have showpiece for any intermediate or advanced orchid collection.

✨ Key Features

  • Dramatic Colour Contrast: Produces vibrant, waxy, golden-yellow sepals and petals wrapped around a highly contrasting, fuzzy textured maroon to dark burgundy throat.

  • Honey-Pineapple Scent: The blossoms are intensely fragrant, filling an entire room with a sweet, heavy scent reminiscent of honey mixed with citrus or pineapple.

  • Cascading Displays: Generates arching, pendulous flower spikes that hang beautifully, each carrying up to 15 to 25 crowded, overlapping blooms.

  • Flexible Re-blooming: Flower spikes emerge from the top nodes of the pseudobulbs. Because it can bloom from both new canes and older leafless canes, you should never cut old green canes off.

🌿 Care Guide

  • ☀️ Light & Location: Requires high, bright filtered light (more than a standard Phalaenopsis). Provide early morning direct sun, but protect it with 50% shade during harsh midday hours. Keep it in a highly ventilated area with good air movement to protect the dense foliage from fungal spots.

  • 💧 Spring & Summer (Growing Season): Water abundantly. The potting media should stay evenly moist but never waterlogged. Water as soon as the top layer of media feels dry.

  • ❄️ Autumn & Winter (The Strict Dry Rest): From November until late January, cut watering down drastically. Only water or mist the roots once every week to prevent the bulbs from severely shriveling. This strict dry period forces the plant to create flowers instead of new leaves.
