Dendrobium Care Guide

Dendrobium orchids can be grown as indoor plants as long as they get a sufficient amount of light & air circulation.

  Light

This plant prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate medium indirect light. Plants grown under ideal light will have apple green leaves and plants which are not getting enough light will have dark green leaves. Learn more about light here

 Watering

In Coconut Husk medium water retention is more compared to Pine Bark, so plants in Coconut Husk may require once in 2-3 days watering compared to 1-2 days watering in Pine Bark.  Medium may dry faster or slower depending on the weather conditions. So always touch and feel the medium, only when partially dry water the plant.  Learn more about watering here

Fertilizing

Fertilizing your orchid regularly provides it with the nutrients it needs for optimal health, immunity and vigorous blooming. Weekly once with Bio-20 or Basfoliar 19:19:19 for growth and rooting. Once a month with Basfoliar 13-40-13. Learn more about fertilizing here

The Dendrobium aphyllum variegated sp. is a true botanical wonder. Famous for its dramatic spring transformation, it sheds its foliage in winter only to burst into a breathtaking, cascading waterfall of fragrant, hooded blossoms along its bare canes. It is a remarkably unique and rewarding choice for any plant collector looking for a spectacular floral show.

✨ Flower Specialties

  • Unique Hooded Shape: Features soft, lavender-pink petals surrounding a distinctive, pouch-like, fuzzy cream-white lip.

  • Bare Stem Blooming: True to its name ("without leaves"), the plant drops its foliage in winter so springtime blooms can explode completely unobstructed along the canes.

  • Sweet Morning Scent: The blossoms release a highly pleasing, sweet, and mild fragrance that fills the air on sunny mornings.

🪴Care Guide

  • ☀️ Light & Placement: Provide bright, indirect sunlight (around 50% shade) during the growing season. Move to a brighter location in winter; stronger light during dormancy stimulates a massive bloom cycle.

  • 💧 Active Watering (Spring/Summer): Water regularly and thoroughly to keep the medium evenly moist, ensuring excellent drainage to prevent root rot.

  • ❄️ Winter Rest Rule: Cut back watering almost completely once leaves drop, only misting every 10–14 days. Crucial: Too much winter water causes the plant to grow baby clones (keikis) instead of flowers.

  • 🌡️ Climate: Thrives in warm temperatures between 15°C and 32°C with high humidity (50%–70%) and good air circulation.
