Cymbidium bicolor Sp. (Two-Colored Cymbidium) is a highly distinctive, resilient epiphytic orchid species native to the tropical and subtropical forests of India, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia. As a true species orchid rather than a man-made hybrid, it is celebrated for its wild, architectural charm and beautiful pendulous growth habit.

🌸 Flower Specialty
  • Captivating two-toned flowers featuring narrow, dusky reddish-brown or dark purple-brown petals outlined by a striking, bright yellow border. The cream-and-crimson lip is highly detailed and forms a beautiful center contrast.
  • Produces long, gracefully arching or hanging pendulous spikes (up to 75 cm long) that carry a dense cascade of up to 26 small, fragrant, and heavily textured waxy blooms.
  • Naturally grows in seasonally dry, warm tropical lowlands to mid-elevation woodlands, making it far more heat-tolerant than typical cool-growing standard Cymbidium hybrids.
🌿 Care Guide
  • Demands bright, filtered sunlight to thrive. Its thick, leathery, strap-like leaves are built to tolerate partial direct sun, and should maintain a healthy yellow-green color rather than deep dark green to ensure abundant blooming.
  • Provide a regular moisture cycle. Water heavily during its active spring and summer growing season, allowing the chunky, fast-draining medium to dry slightly at the top before re-watering. Reduce watering frequency considerably in winter when growth slows down.
  • Excels in intermediate to warm conditions, comfortably tolerating summer day temperatures between 24°C to 32°C. Unlike cool-climate Cymbidiums, it does not require a dramatic winter freeze, but it still benefits from a mild day-to-night temperature drop to consistently initiate flower spikes.
