Catasteum Orchid Care Guide

Catasetums require plenty of water during their growth phase and need complete winter rest. During winter dormancy, keep them dry and start watering when a new growth comes up.

  Light

Catasetums Orchids thrives in bright indirect light. Learn more about light here

 Watering

Catasetums require plenty of water during their growth phase.  This starts in spring when new growths appear with the onset of the pre-monsoon showers.  Watering should be gradually increased and they should be mature by the end of the monsoon.  Once the pseudobulbs are mature, watering should be reduced in autumn and tapered down until they start dropping their leaves which is an indication that water should be withheld completely except occasionally to prevent shrinking of their pseudobulbs.  It is at this time that they will come into bloom. Fertilizing

Weekly once with Bio-20 or Basfoliar 19:19:19 for growth and rooting. Once a month with Basfoliar 13-40-13. Learn more about fertilizing here

Cycnoches lehmannii x Cycnoches Brown’s Choice 'Spotted Swan' is a magnificent, purebred Cycnoches interspecific hybrid. Celebrated by collectors as a classic Swan Orchid, this exotic epiphyte is prized for the elegant, swan-like curve of its floral columns. It combines two exceptional parents to produce an incredibly dramatic, high-contrast display that undergoes a fascinating seasonal dormancy.

🌸 Flower Specialty
  • Typically boasts a vibrant chartreuse green to golden-bronze background, heavily and beautifully patterned with bold, dark maroon or chocolate-brown spots, anchored by a glossy, distinctively shaped lip.
  • Produces pendulous or gracefully arching sprays carrying numerous heavy, waxy blossoms. The unique shape of the flower column closely mimics a nesting swan, creating a highly theatrical and artistic look.
  • Fills your growing area with an intensely sweet, powerful fragrance that releases heavily during the day. The thick-textured flowers are exceptionally durable and last for several weeks in the autumn.
🌿 Care Guide
  • Requires medium-high to bright, filtered indirect sunlight. Strong light intensity is essential during the spring and summer to help the plant build fat, healthy pseudobulbs, but shield it from harsh direct midday sun.
  • Follows a strict two-phase watering cycle. During the spring and summer, when the plant is actively growing leaves and roots, water heavily and frequently to keep the potting mix consistently moist.
  • In late autumn, after flowering concludes, the leaves will naturally turn yellow and drop. Once the plant is bare, stop watering completely for the winter dormancy period to protect the resting pseudobulbs from rotting.
  • Thrives in warm, tropical conditions between 20°C and 32°C during the growing season. It performs beautifully in a fast-draining mixture, requiring high humidity and excellent air movement.
