Cattleya orchids are very sturdy and can take a lot of abuse from those who tend to forget to water. They are also tolerant of several temperature ranges.

  Light

This plant prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate medium indirect light. Plants grown under ideal light will have apple green leaves and plants which are not getting enough light will have dark green leaves. Learn more about light here 

 Watering

In Coconut Husk medium water retention is more compared to Pine Bark, so plants in Coconut Husk may require once in 2-3 days watering compared to 1-2 days watering in Pine Bark.  Medium may dry faster or slower depending on the weather conditions. Fertilizing

  • Light: Thrives in bright, high-intensity indirect light (such as an east-facing or shaded south/west window). Adequate light is crucial to encourage strong growth and future blooms; look for a healthy, light green tint on the pseudobulbs.

  • Watering Strategy: Follow a strict "dry between waterings" cycle. Cattleyas absolutely hate soggy media or "wet feet." Allow the potting mix to dry out completely before giving them a thorough drenching.

  • Temperature & Air Circulation: Prefers warm-to-intermediate conditions between 18°C and 29°C (65°F–85°F). Ensure excellent air movement around the root zone and leaves to keep the plants vigorous and disease-free.
