Cattleya Care Guide

Cattleya orchids are very sturdy and can take a lot of abuse from those who tend to forget to water. They are also tolerant of several temperature ranges.

  Light

This plant prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate medium indirect light. Plants grown under ideal light will have apple green leaves and plants which are not getting enough light will have dark green leaves. Learn more about light here

 Watering

In Coconut Husk medium water retention is more compared to Pine Bark, so plants in Coconut Husk may require once in 2-3 days watering compared to 1-2 days watering in Pine Bark.  Medium may dry faster or slower depending on the weather conditions. So always touch and feel the medium, only when partially dry water the plant.  Learn more about watering here

Fertilizing

Fertilizing your orchid regularly provides it with the nutrients it needs for optimal health, immunity and vigorous blooming. Weekly once with Bio-20 or Basfoliar 19:19:19 for growth and rooting. Once a month with Basfoliar 13-40-13. Learn more about fertilizing here

Elevate your collection with the legendary Cattleya walkeriana var. coerulea 'Edward' SM/JOS, a stunning species native to Brazil. Cherished for its ultra-compact size and amazing fragrance, this rare select clone 'Edward' holds a prestigious Silver Medal (SM) from the Japan Orchid Society. It is celebrated globally for its impeccable form and a highly coveted, exceptionally beautiful coerulea coloration that produces massive blossoms completely dwarfing its small frame.

✨ Key Features

  • Rare "True Blue" Coerulea Coloration: This exceptionally beautiful coerulea form showcases a sophisticated silvery-blue to soft lavender hue, aggressively contrasted by a striking, deep violet-indigo lip.

  • Award-Winning Form: Genetically verified for exhibition-quality structure, featuring perfectly rounded, overlapping petals and an excellent flat presentation.

  • Over-Sized, Dramatic Blooms: Produces magnificent flowers stretching 9 to 11 cm across, creating a jaw-dropping visual display against the plant's ultra-compact 12 cm body.

  • Intense Morning Fragrance: Emits an amazing, exceptionally potent aroma resembling warm cinnamon and ripe raspberries that peaks as morning sunlight hits the petals.

  • Unique Rhizome Flowering: Unlike most Cattleyas, the flower spikes emerge directly from short, leafless stalks at the base of the rhizome rather than from the apex of the pseudobulb.

🌿 Care Guide

This Brazilian native thrives on a distinct seasonal rhythm, demanding high light and a strict dry-down period:

  • ☀️ Light Requirements: Provide bright, heavily filtered light. Aim for a light olive green leaf color. Dark green foliage indicates inadequate light, while purple spotting means the plant has reached its maximum light capacity.

  • 💧 Watering & Humidity (The Wet/Dry Cycle): Water thoroughly, then allow the medium and root zone to dry out completely (100%) before watering again. Maintain high relative humidity between 60% and 80% backed by strong, continuous airflow to prevent rot.

  • 🌡️ Temperature: Thrives in daytime temperatures between 24°C to 35°C. A noticeable nighttime drop to 15°C to 18°C is critical to stimulate root growth and bud initiation.

  • 💤 Critical Winter Rest: Reduce watering drastically for 6 to 8 weeks during late winter. Only mist the pseudobulbs occasionally to prevent excessive shriveling, mimicking its natural dormant season.
