Cattleya Leopoldii is a species native to Brazil, this species is found in coastal swamps below three or four hundred feet elevation. This species orchid can grow two to three feet tall and produce many-flowered inflorescences. And that is exactly what makes it so wonderful! Spotted flowers and a bright fuchia midlobe of the lip, The individual flowers are not especially large, averaging about three inches across. What they lack in size they make up for in numbers, with mature plants capable of producing 10 or more flowers per inflorescence! The flowers have a strong spicy fragrance very close to the bubblegum. This species was first dicovered as cat. tigrina but two years later was renamed as Cat. leopoldii in honour of the King Leopold I of Belgium who was an ardent supporter of horticulture.
