Cattleya Care Guide

Cattleya orchids are very sturdy and can take a lot of abuse from those who tend to forget to water. They are also tolerant of several temperature ranges.

  Light

This plant prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate medium indirect light. Plants grown under ideal light will have apple green leaves and plants which are not getting enough light will have dark green leaves. Learn more about light here

 Watering

In Coconut Husk medium water retention is more compared to Pine Bark, so plants in Coconut Husk may require once in 2-3 days watering compared to 1-2 days watering in Pine Bark.  Medium may dry faster or slower depending on the weather conditions. So always touch and feel the medium, only when partially dry water the plant.  Learn more about watering here

Fertilizing

Fertilizing your orchid regularly provides it with the nutrients it needs for optimal health, immunity and vigorous blooming. Weekly once with Bio-20 or Basfoliar 19:19:19 for growth and rooting. Once a month with Basfoliar 13-40-13. Learn more about fertilizing here

The Cattleya Korn Lada Charming # 5 Wild Purple is a sensational, fairly new hybrid registered in 2022. A masterful cross between Rth. Chomyong Beauty × Rth. Nonthaburi Fancy, this specific "Wild Purple" selection is highly sought after for its breathtaking, high-contrast palette. Exceptionally resilient and rewarding, it is the perfect choice for anyone looking to bring a dramatic splash of exotic, multi-toned tropical luxury to a bright indoor windowsill.

✨ Flower Specialties

  • Striking Contrast: The blooms feature large, velvety magenta-purple, bright red-pink petals beautifully framed and illuminated by a vivid, sunny yellow throat.

  • Exotic Ruffled Lip: Showcases a highly ruffled, deep purple lower lip that gives the entire flower an elegant, wavy, and dimensional structure.

  • Sweet Scent: True to its classic Cattleya heritage, these magnificent flowers emit a light, pleasing fragrance when they open under warm conditions.

  • Bloom Habit: Flower spikes emerge strictly from the top of the newest mature pseudobulbs. Each stem blooms once, with all future flowers arriving on fresh new growth.

🪴Care Guide

  • ☀️ Light: Provide bright, indirect sunlight (south or west windows with a sheer curtain are ideal). Healthy leaves should be a vibrant apple-green; if they turn dark green, move the plant to a brighter spot.

  • 💧 No Wet Feet: Cattleya orchids hate constant, soggy medium. Water thoroughly, but always let the potting mix dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot. Growing in clay pots is highly recommended to encourage quicker drying.

  • 🪵 Chunky Mix & Airflow: Grow in a very coarse, chunky orchid bark mix combined with charcoal or large brick pieces. As natural epiphytes, their roots require maximum airflow and ventilation to thrive.

  • 🌡️ Temperature & Humidity: Thrives best in intermediate temperatures between 15°C and 35°C . It loves a relative humidity level of 60% or higher, but is highly resilient and handles normal household humidity well.
