Cattleya Care Guide

Cattleya orchids are very sturdy and can take a lot of abuse from those who tend to forget to water. They are also tolerant of several temperature ranges.

  Light

This plant prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate medium indirect light. Plants grown under ideal light will have apple green leaves and plants which are not getting enough light will have dark green leaves. Learn more about light here

 Watering

In Coconut Husk medium water retention is more compared to Pine Bark, so plants in Coconut Husk may require once in 2-3 days watering compared to 1-2 days watering in Pine Bark.  Medium may dry faster or slower depending on the weather conditions. So always touch and feel the medium, only when partially dry water the plant.  Learn more about watering here

Fertilizing

Fertilizing your orchid regularly provides it with the nutrients it needs for optimal health, immunity and vigorous blooming. Weekly once with Bio-20 or Basfoliar 19:19:19 for growth and rooting. Once a month with Basfoliar 13-40-13. Learn more about fertilizing here

Cattleya Brassocattleya (Bc.) Yu-Tung Star is an elegant, star-shaped orchid hybrid prized for its vigorous growth and striking geometric beauty. Registered in 2017, this beginner-friendly cattleya is a masterfully balanced cross between Bc. Tetradip and Bc. Morning Glory. It heavily inherits the resilient, fast-growing nature of Brassavola nodosa, which accounts for 50% of its genetic background.

🌸 Flower Specialty
  • Features stunning pink to platinum-white petals that showcase distinct color-changing transitions as they age, beautifully set off by a prominent, speckled deep-pink or purple lip.
  • Produces large, impressive 5-inch star-like blossoms with slender, narrow petals. It is highly celebrated for releasing a delightful, minty-sweet floral fragrance during the evening and night.
  • Exceptionally adaptable, it performs beautifully in standard indoor settings and mild, frost-free climates. Given optimal conditions, it is a sequential grower that can bloom multiple times a year (primarily spring and autumn), with flowers lasting up to 6 to 8 weeks

    🌿 Care Guide
    Light:
Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. A placement receiving a few hours of morning or late afternoon sun is ideal, but shields must be provided against harsh midday rays to prevent leaf scorch.

Watering: Requires moderate moisture levels with an explicit wet-to-dry approach. Water the root system thoroughly, then allow the fast-draining potting medium—such as medium-grade fir bark or sphagnum moss—to dry slightly before watering again.

Temperature: Enjoys warm to intermediate temperatures, ideally ranging between 18°C and 30°C. Thanks to its Cattleya purpurata lineage, it displays great cold-tolerance but should always be protected from freezing drafts and frost.
