Petrea Blue, scientifically known as Petrea volubilis and member of the Verbenaceae family, is a magnificent, fast-growing woody climbing vine. Native to the tropical forests of Central America and the West Indies, this breathtaking plant is a true natural species rather than a man-made hybrid. Often called the Sandpaper Vine or Purple Wreath, it earns its unique nickname from the rough, sandpapery texture of its dark green leaves. The flowers grow in long, cascading clusters or racemes that measure 8 to 30 cm (3 to 12 inches) in length.
