Cattleya Care Guide

Cattleya orchids are very sturdy and can take a lot of abuse from those who tend to forget to water. They are also tolerant of several temperature ranges.

  Light

This plant prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate medium indirect light. Plants grown under ideal light will have apple green leaves and plants which are not getting enough light will have dark green leaves. Learn more about light here

 Watering

In Coconut Husk medium water retention is more compared to Pine Bark, so plants in Coconut Husk may require once in 2-3 days watering compared to 1-2 days watering in Pine Bark.  Medium may dry faster or slower depending on the weather conditions. So always touch and feel the medium, only when partially dry water the plant.  Learn more about watering here

Fertilizing

Fertilizing your orchid regularly provides it with the nutrients it needs for optimal health, immunity and vigorous blooming. Weekly once with Bio-20 or Basfoliar 19:19:19 for growth and rooting. Once a month with Basfoliar 13-40-13. Learn more about fertilizing here

✨ Flower Specialties

  • Vibrant & Striking Contrast: The large, classic "corsage-style" blooms open with a superb contrast of white petals decorated with streaks of magenta-pink and a deep, underlying gold throat.

  • Exotic Frilled Lip: Features large flowers with an enormous, beautifully ruffled lower lip that displays a gorgeous color combination blending from yellow to deep magenta.

  • Intense Scent: True to its classic heritage, these magnificent flowers produce a highly potent, sweet perfume that can easily fill an entire room with fragrance.

  • Massive Scale & Longevity: The magnificent flowers reach up to 12–15 cm (almost 5 inches) across, holding their premium structure and color beautifully for 2 to 4 weeks on the plant.

🪴Care Guide

  • ☀️ Light & Placement: Provide high, bright indirect sunlight (ideal for east windows or shaded south/west exposures). Aim for light, grassy-green leaves—dark green means it needs more light, while yellow indicates too much sun.

  • 🌬️ Airflow: Requires constant, gentle air movement around the plant to prevent fungal and bacterial spotting on the foliage.

  • 💧 Watering: Cattleya orchids prefer a distinct drying cycle. Allow the potting medium to dry out completely before watering thoroughly again. On average, water once a week (more often in peak summer, less in winter).

  • 🌡️ Humidity: Target a relative humidity level between 50% to 70%. Use a humidity tray or a room humidifier if your indoor home air runs dry.
