Description
Vanda insignis sp. is a species vanda orchid, native to Malaysia & Timor and the adjacent islands. One of the showiest species in the genus. The large bright magenta lip is its most prominent feature and has made the species important as a parent. It is a medium sized, hot to warm growing, blooms in the summer on a pendant inflorescence, produces sweetly scented flowers.
These orchids are all epiphytic. They do not like any potting medium. Vanda orchids must not be allowed to dry out entirely. Watering of this vandaceous species must be done with care to prevent water from remaining in the crowns (top leafs), a condition that can cause crown rot. Watering should be regular, every day, allow the roots to dry a bit between watering.
