Phaius flavus is a beautiful species of orchid native to a vast range of humid, shady forests across Asia and the Pacific region. This medium-sized plant is capable of surviving in a wide range of temperatures and grows in conical to ovoid-cylindric pseudobulbs, producing 3-8 elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate, plicate leaves that have a unique pattern - yellow to white spots. Its blooms are a stunning sight - yellow and fragrant, many-flowered inflorescences with persistent bracts, appearing in winter and spring. With its wide distribution across Assam, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, New Guinea, New Caledonia, Samoa and Vanuatu, Ryukyu Islands, and Japan, Phaius flavus is certainly a sight to behold.
