Siam Tulip also called as curcuma is a genus of plants in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae) that includes turmeric. Curcuma plants are native to Southeast Asia, southern China, the Indian subcontinent, New Guinea.
The Siam tulip has thick, olive-green leaves, the flowers stand just above the leaves. The lower bracts of the inflorescence are small and green with flowers emerging between them. The top of the inflorescence has a brilliant cluster of colorful bracts that with some imagination do resemble a tulip in formation. Don't fertilize in fall or when the foliage is beginning to die back, as the plant is in the process of going dormant. Curcuma prefers to stay drier in the winter while dormant. Some species like to receive hours of morning sun, while others prefer light shade.
