As the largest flowered variety of Coryanthes, it is renowned for its bucket-shaped flowers that temporarily trap Euglossine bees in their liquid-filled lips, ensuring pollination. The bees' only escape is through a small opening where they become coated with sticky pollen, allowing them to spread the genetic material and ultimately attract and mate with female bees.
